Why are there Teflon and Kynar extended delivery times

Over the last year, the market has experienced more shortages than I've come across around my 30 years experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have seen several shortages, and delivery delays due to resin allocations from plastic resin companies. This is actually the first instance I have seen all these issues at one time.

PTFE Rod (TFE) and PVDF both are on allocation.

Both of these resins are in short supply. The  PTFE Sheeting product PTFE (TFE) and PVDF  manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar which is mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide demand for this mineral has increased significantly, along with the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high temperature resistance, excellent chemical resistance and extremely low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is utilised throughout tons of purposes from non-stick fry cookware to ptfe tape for use at home. This specific mineral is actually a essential raw material inside the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and lots of refrigerants. This increase in demand combined with shortage of raw materials is responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double within the past year), shortages, and we expect both these factors to keep at it in the near future.
